Some of Michigan’s biggest ski resorts got a head start this season when a cold, snowy snap and good snow-making conditions allowed runs to open by Thanksgiving weekend. And while there’s been a little thaw-snow-thaw upheaval in the last few weeks, excitement is high among skiers for a solid season now that the calendar is flipping to 2023. Home elevator

It’s a good time to look at the rundown of new shiny new lifts and other offerings at some of the state’s biggest resorts. Even if not everyone in your group skis, these resorts have lots of fun options for everyone ready to embrace winter. At some of these places, you can head out to the tubing hill. Glide along cross-country ski trails. Book a dog-sledding adventure. Take a nighttime walk down an Enchanted Trail lined with lights. But for the hardcore ski fans, here is what’s new:

BOYNE MOUNTAIN in Boyne Falls

Cheers could be hear across Boyne Valley - and on social media - when the Midwest’s first eight-passenger D-Line chairlift started spinning before Christmas at Boyne Mountain. The Disciples 8 - also called the D8 - is a high-speed mega lift that delivers a speedy 3-minute ride up to the top of Boyne’s Disciples Ridge area.

Other innovations guests will see this season, according to the resort:

More children’s ski school programs, a new women’s clinic and a cool pop-up Italian restaurant are all making their debut at this Boyne sister site just north of Harbor Springs. Here’s what’s new at The Highlands at Harbor Springs, according to the resort:

More snow-making infrastructure, a new downhill run and a new warm-up and break area are all on display at Crystal Mountain this season. The details:

“You can’t ski or snowboard without snow, and we’re always looking for new, efficient ways to ensure our guests that this mountain will have optimum snow cover,” said Mike Cutler, director of mountain operations. “The new stick guns are perfect for covering more narrow trails and allowing our snowmakers to precisely control where they want to make snow.”

“More seating, more food and beverage options – these are some of the things our guests told us they wanted to see this winter,” said Karyn Thorr, chief operating officer. “So we listened. Any time we can do something to enhance guest experience, we will.”

More snowmaking infrastructure, better lighting, and other non-ski options like expanded dogsledding trips are being offered this year at Shanty Creek. Some of the highlights:

This popular resort just outside Gaylord stirred up excitement early in the season by announcing its “inflation-busting Cool School” theme for one of its winter getaway packages. Here are the details of that offer, and some other fun upgrades for Treetops Resort this season:

The all-inclusive, inflation buster Cool School Winter Getaway Package: “Priced as low as $139 per person, based on double occupancy midweek, the package includes unlimited outdoor recreation with downhill skiing, snowboarding, tubing, XC skiing, snowshoeing, evening snowshoe hikes, and even ice skating. The winter playground package includes lessons and rental equipment for downhill and snowboard first timers and those enthusiasts wanting to hone their skills and enjoy winter savings. The inflation-busting Cool School package also includes two meals – breakfast and dinner with each night’s stay.”

Treetops is now open midweek beyond just holiday weeks: “Mountain lift hours include Thursday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. while most Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.”

Treetops Resort recently tripled their snowmaking capacity – covering more ski, snowboard and tubing terrain.

The Extreme Tubing park was also recently expanded. “There’s a conveyor lift and the Sidewinder run with banked turns, too.”

Check the winter events schedule for new dates for the popular Skiable Feast, Spud-tacular Snowshoe Hike, and a weekly winter party which happens at the top of the ski hill and takes place most Saturday evenings during the season. See the events schedule here.

It has been back-to-back years of big changes at Caberfae Peaks resort near Cadillac. Here’s a look at what’s new:

A New East Peak Triple Chair has replaced the Shelter Double Chair as the main base area lift. This new fixed-grip triple is a Doppelmayr, and will serve the full vertical in that area, unlike the older lift. “The feedback from the chair has been fantastic,” said General Manager Pete Meyer. “There’s no more mid-mountain congestion. The flow of skier and snowboarders has been greatly improved.”

Skyview Lodge renovations: Caberfae has a devoted following, especially among family and friends groups who like to pack their own food and take indoor picnic-style breaks during the ski day. Skyview Lodge upgrades have been focused on making this easier, with lockers, cubbies and crockpot outlets. The roof, bathroom and interior has also been redone. “We work really hard to provide a family-friendly and affordable environment to our skiers,” Meyer said.

MOUNT BOHEMIA near Mohawk in the Upper Peninsula: Mount Bohemia has lots to brag about, especially this year after it landed at #3 on the recent USA Today list of the Top 10 Ski Resorts. Newcomers will see what its fans already know: it’s a spot with the region’s longest runs, highest verticals and some really deep powder.

Mount Bohemia recently shared a map of some new runs in the Outer Limits area. You can see it here on the resort’s Facebook page.

“Most places are full service. They have beginner, intermediate and expert terrain. We just have ungroomed, mostly tree skiing terrain,” Lonie Glieberman, president of Mount Bohemia, told MLive recently. “Picture us like a great BBQ place in Texas. The menu is very small, but what we do, we’re exceptional at.”
